What does my student need to bring to class?

Closed-toe shoes or water shoes (with closed toes) are required (A good example is wearing Crocs in sport mode.), jacket or sweatshirt, hat with clip, sunglass/glasses and strap, towel, water to drink (no glass bottles), and any other equipment needed to sail.

You are welcome to bring your own Type III, Coast Guard Approved life jacket. Please let us know before your student's session if they need a loaner life jacket.

Who do I contact if my sailor gets sick?

If your sailor is sick, call our Program Director, Stan Carroll at 240-876-5204 and the school phone, 231-675-9099. Additionally, please contact us at info@sailcharlevoix.org. We want to make sure that we get your message as soon as possible.

What if my sailor gets sick? Do I get all my money back?

If a child gets sick and stays home ill, we will give a full ‘daily’ refund credit. For example, if a child is sick before a weekly session begins and cannot attend that week, we will give a full refund for the week (five days). If a student attends on Monday and realizes Tuesday before attending class that they are sick, we will give a refund for the remaining four days of that weekly session, and so on.

Students who test positive for COVID 19 must test negative before returning to class or to a rescheduled session.

What are your refund and transfer policies?

Refund and Transfer Policy -

Transfer requests must be received in writing at info@sailcharlevoix.org. There will be no charge for transferring from one session to another, providing there is room in the new session. If there is a difference in the tuition rate, the difference will either be charged or credited depending on the rate of the new class. If a transfer is not possible, a refund fee will be charged.

Refund requests must be received in writing at info@sailcharlevoix.org. Refund fees will be waived in the event of illness. A 20% fee will be charged for refunds requested less than 14 days before the class start-date, unless the refund request is due to illness. A 10% fee will be charged for refunds requested more than 14 days before the class start-date.

In the event of complete class cancelation due to pandemic issues, a full refund will be given. Tuition credits will not be issued for the following year. You may elect to donate any amount of your remaining tuition to Sail Charlevoix.

How will I know if a class or session gets canceled?

Using the contact information you provided during registration, we will notify you via email if your class or session gets canceled. Please put us in your email address book and check your email regularly.

Can I hang around and watch my student sail?

Absolutely! We just ask that parents not go out on the docks.

What if the class that I want is full? Is there a waitlist?

Waitlists are enabled. If the class that you desire is full, please use the online registration process to put your student on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified before your student is removed from the waitlist and enrolled in the class.

Are there additional opportunities to get out on the water, besides youth sailing and racing lessons?

Will you be selling t-shirts?

We will be selling t-shirts online from our website Shop and also at sail school most Mondays and Fridays. If you order online, we prefer you choose the school-pickup option. Your online order will be ready during your child's first scheduled session.
